What is brain pain?
Brain pain is a term used to describe a range of symptoms that can occur when the brain is not functioning properly. Brain pain can be caused by several different conditions, including stroke, head injury, and Alzheimer’s disease.
If you’re experiencing any of the following signs and symptoms, it may be time to see a doctor:
Severe headaches
Tingling or numbness in the arms or legs
Trouble speaking or understanding language
Extreme fatigue
Difficulty concentrating or thinking clearly
The Different Types of Brain Pain
Brain pain is a common cause of distress and can be difficult to diagnose. It can range from mild discomfort to debilitating pain. Here are four types of brain pain:
Neurological pain: This type of pain is caused by damage to the nervous system, typically as a result of an injury or a disease. Neurological pain can be severe and long-lasting.
Neuropathic pain: Neuropathic pain is usually caused by damage to the nerves in the body, but it can also be caused by conditions like diabetes or lupus, which affect the nerve cells themselves. Neuropathic pain is often chronic and difficult to treat.
Paresthesias: Paresthesias are sensations that vary in intensity and may include tingling, numbness, burning, and prickling. They can occur anywhere in the body but are most commonly felt on the skin surface near the spinal cord or in the extremities (like hands and feet).
Migraine headaches: Migraine headaches are among the most common types of headaches and are characterized by throbbing temples, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and extreme fatigue.
Symptoms of Brain Pain
Many symptoms of brain pain can make everyday activities very difficult. The most common symptom is headaches, which are often throbbing and extremely painful. Other symptoms may include difficulty concentrating, difficulty speaking, changes in mood, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and seizures. If you experience any of these symptoms and think that you may have brain pain, it is important to seek medical attention.
